SELECTED Students FEBRUARY 2014 Siena EILC courses

The European Commission, in accordance with the Erasmus Action of the LLP Program promotes the Erasmus Intensive Language Courses (EILC) also for the 2013/2014 academic year.
The Erasmus Intensive Language Courses (EILC) are specialised courses in less widely used and less taught languages organised in the countries where these languages are spoken. The EILCs take place in the following countries for the eligible languages in brackets: Belgium (Dutch), Bulgaria (Bulgarian), Croatia (Croatian), Cyprus (Greek), Czech Republic (Czech), Denmark (Danish), Estonia (Estonian), Finland (Finnish and Swedish), Greece (Greek), Hungary (Hungarian), Iceland (Icelandic), Italy (Italian), Latvia (Latvian), Lithuania (Lithuanian), Malta (Maltese), the Netherlands (Dutch), Norway (Norwegian), Poland (Polish), Portugal (Portuguese), Romania (Romanian), Slovakia (Slovak), Slovenia (Slovenian), Spain (Catalan , Valencian, Basque and Galician), Sweden (Swedish), Switzerland (Italian) and Turkey (Turkish).
The EILC give Erasmus students visiting these countries for studies and placements the opportunity to study the language concerned for two to six weeks (with a minimum of 60 teaching hours in total, and at least 15 teaching hours a week) with the aim of being prepared for the Erasmus mobility period abroad.
EILC courses are free of enrolment and participation fees. Apart from the Erasmus grant, a supplementary mobility grant for participating in EILC may be awarded and paid by the respective sending Higher education institution.

The University for Foreigners of Siena is one of the Organizing Institutions in Italy for the 2013/2014 academic year.
Each EILC course will be organised for two levels (level 1: beginner – level 2: intermediate) and will take place in two different sessions (in the summer and in the winter period) according to the following dates:

2-30 AUGUST 2013
2-27 SEPTEMBER 2013
7-31 JANUARY 2014
3-28 FEBRUARY 2014

IMPORTANT: EILC courses must be attended from the beginning to the end. Postponed arrival or early departures are not allowed so, we recommend students to contact  Host Erasmus Universities in order to communicate their participation to the course for the entire period.

Students registered in a Higher education institution holding an ERASMUS University Charter, who have been selected for an ERASMUS study or placement period in Italy for the 2013/2014 academic year can apply for the EILC courses.

Students whose main subject of study is the language of the country organising the EILC are normally not eligible participants.

Comenius and Grundtvig Assistants may also participate, provided that there is a surplus of places on a course.

The indicative number of foreign students that will take part in the EILC courses will be in all about 500.

Selection Criteria

In order to balance the selection, we considered the home University, the home institution, the subject area.
For those students to equal merit the selection will be made on the "First come first served" bases and considering their length of studies.

It is strongly recommended to apply for 2 destinations ONLY*.

*Please note that when students apply to more than one Organizing Institution, through the related application forms, have to select as first choice the same Organizing Institution in all application forms submitted.

If a student applies to different Organizing Institutions selecting all of them, in turn,  as first choice, he/she will be automatically put in a waiting list.

In case of vacancies, they will be selected according to the date and time of submission criterion.

Please note that the application does not automatically entitle the student to participate in an EILC. The organising institution will carry out selection of students and inform each applicant and his/her home university of the final selection. It is not possible to attend more than one EILC. EILC courses must be attended BEFORE the Erasmus period.
